The Sixth Annual Convocation of Vels University held on 7th May 2016 at University Campus, Pallavaram at 9:00 AM. .

Chauhan, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India, & Chairman, Law Commission of India, the Guest of Honour.Dr.Ishari K.Ganesh, Chancellor of the University, presided over the convocation function in the presence of Dr.A.Jothi Murugan, Vice-President (P&D), Dr.Arthi Ganesh, Vice-President (Academic) and Dr.V.Thamizh Arasan, Vice-Chancellor. Honoris Causa conferred on Prof.Dr.S.Sivakumar, Professor, Indian Law Institute, New Delhi, Thiru.M.Kiran Kumar, Chairman & Managing Director, Lalithaa Jewellery Mart Pvt.Ltd, Chennai, Thiru. M.Nasser, President, South Indian Film Artistes’ Association for Actor, Director & Producer & Dr.Shivakumar Palanisamy, Gastroenterologist & Laparoscopic Surgeon, Kumaran Multispecialty Hospital & Research Institute, Chennai.
The University conferred degrees to 1877 students including 34 Gold, 24 Silver, 20 Bronze Medals, 102 M.Phils and 31 Ph.Ds. Vels University strives to offer qualitative education that will place our students competitively on par with other Universities. This year around 810 students have been placed in various Companies.
The University has decentralized the administration by creating 15 Schools such as School of Engineering, School of Maritime Studies, School of Ocean Engineering, School of Management & Commerce, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Life Sciences, School of Computing Sciences, School of Basic Sciences, School of Physiotherapy, School of Hotel and Catering Management, School of Mass Communication, School of Law, School of Languages, School of Education and School of Music & Fine Arts. The University offers 41 UG courses and 50 PG courses.
The University has a total strength of 468 teaching staff and 426 non-teaching staff. The University is well equipped with ICT facilities such as Smart class rooms, Video Conferencing, Online courses and Vels Knowledge Resource Centre.
